Arthur E. Schmitt

Arthur Earl Schmitt, 77, of Elberfeld, Ind., passed away Friday, March 3, 2023 at home.  He was born March 29, 1945 to the late Ervin & Dorothy (Martin) Schmitt. 

Arthur graduated from Millersburg High School.  He was a Vietnam veteran serving in United States Air Force.  He retired from Bristol Meyers after many years.  He was a member of the VFW Post 1114 and the American Legion Post 351 Elberfeld, where he served on the Honor Guard for many years.  He was a member of Zoar United Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister, Sarah, wife of 47 years, Brenda, 2015. He is survived by his wife of 4 years, Sharon Crabtree Leathers Schmitt, son, Daniel Schmitt (Pam); daughter, Rebecca Stevens (Richard); grandchildren, Britni, Sadie, Katelyn, Avery, Emma; great grandson, Remington, siblings, Fred, Steve, Ernie Schmitt and Frances Walker.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, March 9, 2023 at Titzer Family Funeral Homes, Volkman Chapel, 2nd & Elm Streets, Elberfeld, Ind., (812) 983-4211. with burial to follow in Northview Cemetery with full military rites.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, 2023 and from 9 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.  

Memorial contributions may be made to the wounded Warrior Project.
