Clara Belle (Bowley) Clayton Rich, 93, passed away February 9, 2014, with her family by her side. She was born on April 8, 1920 in Madisonville, Ky to the late Amie and John Bowley. Clara Belle was preceded in death by her brother, Tom Bowley and her sister, Mary “Toots” Rudd Young. In addition, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Willis Lee Clayton and Earl Rich; son, James Guy Clayton; daughters, Karen Shawn Clayton and Lana Sue Rich. Clara Belle taught Sunday School at First Baptist Church in Madisonville and later was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Evansville. She was a PTA President at Delaware Elementary for several years. Clara Belle could spot an antique long before it was fashionable. She could be found most days working in her yard, she called it “piddlin”. A gracious hostess she was, she never met a stranger and her door was always open. Clara Belle entertained us all with fascinating stories of her younger days which will always be remembered and treasured. Clara spent a lot of time with her very special, 13 year old great-granddaughter, Madison “Maddy” Baker. She will be greatly missed by those with whom she engaged throughout her life. May she enjoy the peace that passes all understanding. Survivors include siblings, Billy LaRue and Shirley Whitledge of Evansville and Arlus LaRue of Panama City, FL; her children, Sheila Rich (Bob) of Madisonville, Carole Clayton and Robert Clayton of Evansville, Janis Hale (Val) of Floyds Knobs, IN, Bonnie Clayton-Price of Jeffersonville, IN, and Kent Rich (Susie) of Newburgh; sixteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, and seven great great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the nurses and aides at Westpark Rehabilitation Center for the care of our mother during her brief stay as well as her physician Dr. David Hayes for his many years of wonderful care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Red Cross or the charity of choice. Visitation will be begin at 11:00 a.m. with services at 1:00 p.m. Thursday February 13, 2014 at Titzer Family Funeral Homes ~ Miller & Miller Colonial Chapel, 100 E.
