Dale Ray Toomey Sr., of Newburgh IN, passed away on Sunday May 31st 2026 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, IN while surrounded by his loving family.
Dale was born on January 15th 1938 to his parents Raymond Robert and Virginia M. (Schmitt) Toomey in Evansville IN. He graduated from Newburgh High and Vo Tech Mechanic Arts School in 1956, then joined the US Air Force. After serving in the military, Dale began a long and fruitful career at Alcoa, working in various areas of the plant.
Dale was a member of the Newburgh Jaycee’s and the previous Moose Lodge of Newburgh. He was also a lifetime member of the American Legion in Newburgh, having even been a previous member of the Kapperman Honor Guard.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Virginia Toomey; and his sister-in-law, Judy Ann Toomey. He is survived by his beloved wife of over 15 years, Billie Toomey; his children, Dale (Roanna) Toomey Jr., Dana (Mark) Harper, Dawn (Brett) Phipps; stepchildren, Jeff Martin and Shelley Cundiff; grandchildren, Kyle, William, Jacob, Brianna, Kayley, Waylon, Ashlen, Riney, and Lyla on the way; brother, Frederick (Bob)Toomey Sr; nephew, Frederick (Angie) Toomey Jr.; niece, Christine Marie (Chris) Parks; and many loved extended family members and friends.
A funeral service will be held in Dale’s honor on Saturday, June 6th 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Titzer Family Funeral Homes Simpson Chapel 510 W Jennings St. Newburgh IN 47630. Visitation will be held the evening before, on Friday June 5th 2026 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., also at Titzer Family Funeral Homes Simpson Chapel in Newburgh IN. One hour of extra visitation will take place on Saturday June 6th 2026 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 10:00 a.m.
The family would like to extend a special, heartfelt thanks to Dr. Cook and the staff at the St. Vincent Cancer Center.
Memorial contributions may be made in Dale’s honor to the Kapperman American Legion Post 44 Honor Guard in Newburgh, IN.
