She was a graduate of Bosse High School. She and the love of her life, Bertis L. Stephens, made their home in Evansville until moving to Owensboro, Kentucky in 1959. In Evansville, Doris worked in the office at DeJong's Dept. Store. After moving to Owensboro, she worked for Hoosier Oil Co., then the Daviess County Public Library, from which she retired.
