Doris Rae Young, 88, of Evansville, IN, passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2024. She was born in Millersburg, IN on March 26, 1935, to the late William and Margaret (Schaperjohn) Godeke.

Doris grew up on a dairy farm in Warrick County in a very close-knit family as one of thirteen children and graduated from Millersburg High School. She was a lifelong Member of Zoar UCC Church where she was the superintendent of the Sunday School for many years. Doris was an accomplished baker and enjoyed sharing her food with others.   She also loved to mow grass and play clabber. She was an avid gardener and a devoted fan of the Saint Louis Cardinals, IU basketball, and Bobby Knight.

Doris is survived by her husband, Billy Young; children, Greg (Debbie) Young, Cindy (Randy) Hupfer; grandchildren, Christy (Ben Brann) Hupfer, Joseph Young, Tyler (Brooke) Newhouse, Sierra (Kemni) Pierre, Zach (Mallory) Newhouse; 5 great grandsons; sisters, Dorothy Menke, Marian Miller; brothers, Ray Godeke, Harold Godeke; brother-in-law, Wayne Drilling; sister-in-law, Joyce Godeke; and 22 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William, and Margaret (Schaperjohn) Godeke; grandson, Andy Hupfer; sisters, Mildred Hahn, Mabel Blythe, Elsie Foerster, Wilma Drilling, Edna Kuhlenschmidt, Evelyn Rettinger; brothers, Carl Godeke, Emil Godeke; and 10 brothers and sisters in law.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 24, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Zoar UCC, 3533 Zoar Church Road, Elberfeld, IN 47613. Burial will be held at a later date.
