Dorothy Jane Sessions, 89, of Altoona, Florida, and formerly of Newburgh, passed away on June 14, three days before her 90th birthday. She was born to Marvel and Meredith Moore in Chicago, Illinois, on June 17, 1936. Dottie graduated from Galesburg, Illinois High School in 1954. In 1958, Dottie graduated with honors from the University of Illinois. She then received her Master’s Degree in Special Education from U of I. Dottie was affiliated with Alpha Delta Pi social sorority. She taught special education in suburban Chicago and later supervised student teachers in Illinois. She was married to the late Robert Sessions for 33 years and moved to Evansville in the late 90s where she taught at USI. She later moved to Water Street in Newburgh and enjoyed many years living on the Ohio River and wintering in The Villages in central Florida. She loved playing tennis, golf, gardening, entertaining, her chocolate lab Charlie and cat Tiger, her family and the many friends she made in Evansville and Newburgh. She later moved to Lake View Terrace in Altoona, Florida.
Dottie is lovingly remembered and survived by her sister Barbara Pickle of Evansville, brother James Moore (Judith) of Newburgh, and seven nieces and nephews: William Pickle, Pleasant Hill, CA; Betsy (Paul)) Schueth, Port St. Joe, FL; Lucy (Ron) Steinhart, Mt. Vernon, IN; Sarah (Dan) Gehweiler, Cedarburg, WI; Nancy Herndon, Indianapolis, IN; Matt (Anisa) Lamont, Newburgh, IN; and Michael (Cori) Lamont, Madison, WI.
Visitation will be held at Titzer Family Funeral Home in Newburgh July 11, 2026, from 2:00-4:00 pm with service immediately following at 4:00. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Newburgh at a later date.
