Warrick County’s loss is Heaven’s gain as Dwight Beard lost his battle to cancer with his family by his side on Thursday, October 25th at 6:10 a.m.  Dwight Randall Beard, 80, was born June 26, 1938 in Dale, IN to Floyd and Loretta (Wellmeyer) Beard.  Dwight received his BS in Education in 1960 from Oakland City College then went on to receive his Masters and Rank I at Western KY University in Guidance and Counseling.

He attended the Chandler United Methodist Church along with his wife who filled the organist position.  He was a lifelong member of the Chandler Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he dedicated his life developing and leading in different areas of the church.  He and his wife Joan served in various programs including the Lasagna Dinners and various youth and music programs in the church.  Dwight also taught the Beacon Light Class.  He was instrumental in getting the parking lot paved and many building projects completed.  He served as an Elder, Director of Bible School and many areas of the church.

He was a member of Odd Fellows Canal 209 of Chandler.  He worked in the Administration office for Warrick County School Corp as Director of Student Services.  Dwight retired in 1999 as a Guidance Counselor for Castle High School where he and his wife remained faithful athletic supporters.  He worked the last eight years for SIRS.  Dwight had many accomplishments, but his main focus was always his wife, children and grandchildren.

Dwight was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Beard; mother, Loretta Fenneman; step-father, Roger Fenneman; brother, Gerald Beard; step-brother, Ronald Fenneman; sisters-in-law, Ruby Beard and Linda Blackford.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Blackford Beard; children, Randy Beard (Renée), Cathy Jo Webb (Dennis), Ronnie Beard; brother, Don Beard (Reda); sister, Brenda White (Fred); grandchildren, Amy Beard, Sally Weinzapfel (Mac), Matthew Towler, Marissa West (Andrew), Libby, Sophia, Hadley Beard; great-grandchildren, Kingston, Emi Lou Towler, Evelyn West; sister-in-law, Jalene Schafer (Bob); brother-in-law, Donnie Blackford; step sister-in-law, Karen Fenneman, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family would like to thank Deaconess Hospice and family and friends during our time of need.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m., Odd Fellows tribute 7:30 Friday, November 16, 2018 at Titzer Family Funeral Homes, Simpson Chapel, 510 W. Jennings St., Newburgh, IN (812) 853-8314.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 4 p.m., with visitation beginning at 2 p.m., Saturday November 17, 2018 at Chandler Elementary School Gym, 401 S. Jaycee St., Chandler, IN.
