Ermalinda Mary Catherine Goedde Wargel, 94, of Evansville, Ind., oldest daughter of Frank and Elizabeth (Schorlau) Goedde, born March 28, 1923, died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, April 12, 2017. Recently she celebrated her 94th birthday with a party at her son, Ron’s house.
Erma was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church. She enjoyed quilting there and for her family to whom she gifted many beautiful creations. At church she cleaned with the Heavenly Dusters and wrapped hamburgers for Bingo. She enjoyed playing cards, bus trips, and participating in various activities with her many friends.
Erma joined the Altar society, TOPS and the Auxiliaries of the Little Sisters and VFW Post 1114.
One of Erma’s most precious talents was her ability to embrace others. She sincerely enjoyed giving and receiving hugs and was interested in each person she encountered. Erma liked to laugh and that laughter often included a ‘snort’.
She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 53 years, Harold in 2001; daughters, Linda Keliipaakaua (2013), Theresa Daugherty (2012), and grandson, Craig Moore (2008); brothers, Raymond, Sylvester, and Elmer Goedde.
Erma is survived by daughters, Mary Jo Bennett (Gordon), Donna Moore (Barry); sons, David (Carol), Ronald (Kathy Fulton), James (Lisa); sons-in-law, William and Gregory. She is also survived by sister, Bertha Schaefer Head; brother, Arthur Goedde; thirteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Heartfelt thanks to the compassionate doctors, nurses, techs, and cleaning staff on the 5th floor at St. Mary’s Medical Center as well as the caring ambulance responders.
