Eugene "Gene" Allen

Eugene Betz "Gene" Allen, 90, of Newburgh IN. passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at his home.  He was born June 14,1930 in Newburgh, IN to James Elmer & Frieda K. (Betz) Allen Sr. at the Old Lock & Dam assistant Lock Master cottage on the hill.  Gene was a proud United States Marine serving his country during the Korean War at El Toro, Santa Ana, CA.

He was owner operator of Allen's TV Sales & Service Shop for some 35 years in Newburgh. Gene was a past Ohio Township Assessor for some 16 years, Rose Hill Cemetery Board Member, the Newburgh Town Board and the Newburgh Fire Dept.  He was of the Catholic Faith and a member of the American Legion Kapperman Post #44 in Newburgh.

Gene was preceded by his first wife, Barbara (Carter) Allen, his sister; Martha Grimm, and brothers; James E. Allen Jr. and Louis Allen.

He is survived by his daughter; Cindy Sue (Steve) Simpson, 2 grandchildren; Jeremiah Strange of Mt. Juilet TN, and Christian McGarrah of Lawrenceville GA.

The funeral service will be private with burial to follow in Rose Hill Cemetery with full military rites. Gene's family will have a Celebration of Life at a later date.
