George Dorman Provence, 76, passed away April 8, 2024. He was born August 22,1947 in Batesville, Arkansas, to the late Norman and Monterie (Boles) Provence. George graduated from Noblesville High School in 1965. He played football, basketball and ran track. He held the track record until recently. He studied architectural drawing at Vincennes University and at Ball State University. He was in the Army National Guard for seven years during the Vietnam era and was able to participate in Honor Flight 14, April 2023, with his son as guardian. Over the years he was co-owner of a gun store and the owner of three (3) Parson-Bishop Service franchises, while serving as Vice-President for the corporate office. George retired from full-time work in 2012, but continued part-time employment with Five Star Security Systems. George will be remembered for his great sense of humor and his infinite love for the Cubs. He enjoyed music, hunting waterfowl, fishing, and coaching youth sports. He was a captivating speaker and could think on his feet with quick spontaneous wit. George was active in St. John the Baptist (SJB) summer socials, loving to auction off sports paraphernalia from well-known sports’ players, and famous celebrities. He continually gave his time in maintenance for SJB school and playground. He was a member of the Living Legacy Society and was honored as a Brute recipient (along with his wife, Lynda) in 1997 - the highest award given for service in the Diocese of Evansville. Family was important to George, including his furbaby, Lily, who brought great joy and comfort to his life. When he was not volunteering, he enjoyed family cruises, Cubs outings, woodworking, and keeping his yard the best in the neighborhood. George was preceded in death by his parents Norman and Monterie (Boles) Provence and his brother Jerry Provence. He is survived by his wife Lynda (Becher) Provence, sister-in-law, Donna (Bougher) Provence and brother,Terry (Vicky) Provence; two children, Jason Provence (LeeAnn) and Jennifer (Brandon) Sitzman; and eight grandchildren, Nolan and Gavin Provence; Brandon Michael (deceased), Destiny, Katelyn and Adam Sitzman; and step-grandchildren, Anderson and Tanner Schmidt. There will be no visitation at Titzer Family Funeral Home, Simpson Chapel, 510 West Jennings Street, Newburgh, IN but there will be an inurnment service, including military rites, at St. John the Baptist Mausoleum, 5020 Bell Rd., at 11:00 a.m. CST on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, with Deacon Tony Schapker officiating. The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Titzer, Chemo Buddies, Heritage Hospice (especially RN Amy Barnes, CNA Laura Stone and NP Margaret Gregory), his two “girlfriends”, Michelle Boris and Mary Titzer for continual food, cards and visits, Jim and Debbie Egen for infinite prayer and care, and Jim and Pat Wood, long-time neighbors who regularly visited, brought food and picked him up each Friday for a luncheon outing; other thoughtful family and friends for meals and prayers, as well as Titzer Family Funeral Home for handling arrangements.
