Listen to Obituary

Hubert C. Mayhugh Jr, 65, of Evansville, IN, passed away on Friday, August 28, 2026, surrounded by family. He was born on June 5, 1961, to Hubert C. Mayhugh Sr, and Carole Hatcher.

For more than 40 years, Hubert dedicated himself to building, painting, and dismantling communication radio towers, some standing more than 1,000 feet tall. His work required determination, and an unwavering commitment to seeing a job through, qualities that Hubert carried with him throughout his life. He was never a quitter and never one to back down from a challenge.

Hubert had a natural curiosity and loved to tinker, always finding something to take apart, fix, or figure out. He also had an incredible sense of direction. It seemed as though he carried an internal map with him wherever he went, he never needed a map or directions to know where he was headed.

Outside of work, Hubert enjoyed watching old Western movies and collecting Elvis memorabilia. But perhaps one of the greatest things he left behind was the knowledge he shared with others. He taught his children and many others valuable lessons, not only about how to fix things and get the job done, but about perseverance, determination, and never giving up. His many skills, stories, and lessons will live on through the people whose lives he touched, especially his children and grandchildren whom he loved and cherished more than anything else.

Hubert is survived by his children, Misty Hazelwood (Clifford), Hubert Mayhugh III, Crystal Porath (Andy) William Mayhugh (Nikita ) Ashly Martin (Josh); girlfriend, Laura Watson; grandchildren, Kayley Hazelwood, Lily Mayhugh, Deja Hazelwood, Jada Hazelwood, Destiny Hazelwood, Justin Mayhugh, Mary Mayhugh, Kylen Hazelwood, Jayden Hazelwood, Merissa Mayhugh, Kaitlyn Porath, Adalynn Mayhugh, Waylon Martin, Walker Martin, Royalty Mayhugh, and four great grandchildren; brothers Mark, Jimmy, and Brian; Sisters Mary Lang, Lisa Mayhugh, Karen Wallis, and Kristie Miller.

He was preceded in death by his father, Hubert Mayhugh; stepfather, Jim Hatcher; Brother, William C. Mayhugh; granddaughter Cara.
