Ida Belle Schmitt, 90, of Boonville, formerly of Newburgh, passed away, Tuesday,
June 14, 2011, at St. Mary's Medical Center.
She was born May 6, 1921, in Fredonia, Kentucky to Henry and Mattie (Prewett)
Turley. Ida graduated in 1940 from Fredonia Valley High School from a class of 15,
of which she was the Valedictorian. She attended and was baptized at Fredonia
Baptist Church. Ida worked at Schear's Department Store in Evansville for 9 years;
then helped work on the farm until they retired from farming. She then worked at
Walmart for 18 years, and retired at age 83. Ida enjoyed doing word search puzzles
& being with her family.
Ida is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years in 2006, Theodore Schmitt; her
parents, Henry and Mattie Turley; and brothers and sisters, Clifton, Mary Louise,
Martin, Rachel Turley, Virginia (Turley) Hunt, and John Henry Turley.
She is survived by three daughters, Marjorie Wargel & Ron, Betty Roedel, Kathy
Dassel & Bob; five grandchildren, Jill Roedel, Amy (Roedel) Morgan & Scott, Matt
Wargel & Melissa, Aaron Dassel, Jacob Dassel; & nieces & nephews.
A funeral service will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, June 18, 2011, at Titzer Family
Funeral Homes, Simpson Chapel, 510 W Jennings St., Newburgh, Indiana, (812)
853-8314, Pastor Steve Brown will officiate and burial will follow at St. John
Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.
