James D. Kleeman, 83, passed away January 1, 2019 at his residence. He was born, one of five children, on March 1, 1935 in Tell City, Ind. To Albert and Betty Kleeman. Jim graduated in 1953 from Memorial High School and from USI (University of Southern Indiana). Jim proudly served his country in the United States from 1957 to 1960 as a radio mechanic. After the Navy, Jim joined the Evansville Police Department where he retired after 35 years on the EPD-from 1960-1995. Jim quickly rose through the ranks at EPD retiring as a Major and in 1990 he was co-director of the newly opened Central Dispatch. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings, Sharon and Michael. He is survived by his wife, Mary of Newburgh, IN; son, David (Mary) of Indianapolis, IN; step-children, PJ Tapp of Louisville, KY and Jeff Smithson (Marie) of New Albany, IN; his only grandchild, Caitlyn Tapp of Louisville, KY; brothers, Larry (Mova) of Newburgh, IN and Steve (Teresa) of Evansville, IN; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and longtime fellow snow birds in Destin, FL. Jim was a member of the Evansville FOP, Newburgh American Legion Kapperman Post #44, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Newburgh and he also volunteered at Mother Teresa’s Thrift Store in Newburgh and left a trail of hand painted lady bugs everywhere he went. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 5, 2019 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 625 Frame Rd. Newburgh, IN. Inurnment will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery, Evansville, IN. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a memorial service at 7 p.m. on Friday, January 4, 2019 at Titzer Family Funeral Homes ~ Simpson Chapel, 510 W. Jennings St. Newburgh, IN (812) 853-8314. Additional visitation will be on Saturday 10 a.m. to Mass time at the church. Condolences may be made at www.titzerfuneralhomes.com
