James M. Jenkins, 93, passed away Friday June 28, 2014 at Good Samaritan Home and Rehab Center in Oakland City, IN. He was born February 12, 1921 in Morganfield, KY to the late Nell (McClendon) and Oscar Jenkins. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Haubstadt. Jim served in the United States Army and was part of the invasion of Normandy and also served in Sicily. He was a member of the Elberfeld American Legion and served as chaplain for 25 years. He was also a member of the VFW at Ft. Branch. Jim worked for Whirlpool for 42 years. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Dorothy (Radney) Jenkins; two sisters, Jessie Oliver and Christina Elliott. Jim is survived by two daughters, Wanda Houchin (Michael) and Merrill Armijo (Tom); a son, Jimmy Jenkins (Kathy); niece, Susan Goodrid (Steve); seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and nine great-great grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday July 2, 2014 at St. James Catholic Church, 12300 S. 50 W. Haubstadt, IN, with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Fr. Kenneth Betz will officiate. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Elberfeld American Legion. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to service time at the church. Titzer Family Funeral Homes, Elberfeld, IN is assisting the family (812) 983-4211. Memorial contributions may be made to St. James Catholic Church.
