Josefina Cerda-Martinez was born on September 28, 1966, in Reynosa, Mexico to Josefa and Candelario Cerda. She departed this life peacefully surrounded by the love of her friends and family on November 3, 2015. For most of her adult life, she was a caretaker for those who could not do so themselves. She worked diligently and passionately at several nursing homes and took great pride in her work. More recently she worked for the State of Indiana at the Division of Family Resources office, once again answering her calling to help those in need of assistance. She happily married Jesse Martinez on June 7, 2014, in Evansville, Indiana, at their church where their closest friends and family joined in celebration. She was a member of Covenant Life Ministry and was very active in her spirituality, regularly attending various church events and volunteering as a Sunday school teacher to the youth of her church. She loved reading and was very rarely found without her head in a book; the only exception being when she would watch her beloved St. Louis Cardinals play. She was very family oriented and as the matriarch, took great pride in being there for her children and joy in spoiling her grandchildren. She leaves to cherish her sweet memories, her four granddaughters, Sindal Lee Maldonado of Corpus Christi, Texas; Faith Esperanza of Shreveport, Louisiana; Morgan Faith Fontenot and Kassidy Grace Fontenot, both of Evansville; her grandson, Alfonso Maldonado Perez of Corpus Christi, Texas; two daughters, Nayelli Yamile Maldonado of Corpus Christi, Texas, Senta Patricia Streeter of Evansville; two sons, Albert Pierre Fontenot III and Patrick Sean Streeter II, both of Evansville; her three brothers, Efren Ortega of Reynosa, Mexico, Pedro Cerda of Sinton, Texas, Candelario Cerda, Jr. of Monte Alto, Texas; two sisters, Maria Torres of St. Joseph, Missouri, Eulogia Flores of Sinton, Texas; her parents, Josefa and Candelario Cerda of Monte Alto, Texas; and her loving and devoted husband, Jesse Reyes Martinez of Evansville. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, November 7, 2015, at Covenant Life Ministry, 719 S. Elliott St., Evansville, Ind., and will be officiated by her close friend, Pastor Carl Sanders. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, November 6, 2015, at Titzer Family Funeral Homes, Meyer Chapel, 100 E. Columbia St., Evansville, Ind., (812) 424-9288. Additional visitation will be 12 p.m. to service time Saturday at the church. Sympathy wishes to the family may be shared at www.titzerfuneralhomes.com
