Pearl LaVerne Guest, age 88, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026.
She will be remembered for her deep faith, her generous heart, her mischievous sense of humor, and, of course, for proudly staying “29” for several decades longer than most people would dare try.
LaVerne had a special gift for keeping life in perspective. Whenever anyone stressed over something small, she’d flash that knowing smile and say, “If that’s the worst thing that happens, you should be so lucky.” It became her trademark reminder that joy was always within reach — even on the messy days.A devoted stay‑at‑home mother and the proud grandmother of eleven, LaVerne adored telling stories about her grandchildren. Whether it was a major milestone or something as simple as a funny comment they made, she told it with a sparkle in her eye and the enthusiasm of their biggest cheerleader. If there had been trophies for “Most Excited Grandparent,” she would’ve swept the category every year.
LaVerne is survived by her children Marvin Guest Jr., Dino Guest, Orlander (Patti) Guest, and Valerie (Cecil) Sullivan; her brother Ronald Coleman; and nieces Pat McElroy and Soretta Quarels. She was preceded in death by her parents Berry (“BoBo”) and Novella (“Mutha”) Coleman, by five siblings; Theodore McElroy, Fanny Coleman, Berry Etta Glass, Thomas Coleman, and Charles Coleman; and nephew Teddy McElroy — all no doubt thrilled to welcome her home.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 7 at Watkins Temple (670 S. Governor), with viewing beginning at 10:00 a.m and service at 12:00 pm. In true LaVerne fashion, she asked for a celebration filled with color — and specifically requested that no one wear black. If you show up wearing something bright, bold, or joyfully mismatched, she’d absolutely count that as a win.
Condolences may be made to LaVerne's family on the Titzer Family Funeral Homes website.
