Louvera Mihelcic "Lou" Whitaker, Chandler, Ind., passed away, Tuesday, May 17, 2016. She was 90 and had outlived all of her siblings. Lou was born February 28, 1926, in Beech Creek, Kentucky. She was a lifelong homemaker. Lou canned everything that came out of the garden when she lived on the farm. She was a member of Gateway Baptist Church in Newburgh. Lou was an excellent cook, a trait she passed on to her children. Many times, friends of the children wanted to "spend the nite" just to be in our presence and eat Momma's good cooking! She spent many years playing bingo at several places, with most of those years at Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Lou leaves behind many friends she made there. She enjoyed casino gambling at French Lick and used to make annual trips to Tunica. She loved to fish and enjoyed going to Kentucky Lake with family. She was always "ready to go", no matter where the destination would be. Lou was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Robert Whitaker in 1997. She is survived by son, Thomas Whitaker of Chandler; daughter, Karen Craddock (Marc) of Evansville; 2 very special nieces, Ramona Betz of Boonville, Tonya Dieterlen of Mooresville, along with several other nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Hamilton Pointe for their special care. The wonderful folks from AseraCare hospice made her very comfortable until the end. They are a special group. She always used to say, "I'll be here till the roses bloom again" and thanks be to God, this year she was! Funeral services will be private, in the care of Titzer Family Funeral Homes, Miller & Miller Colonial Chapel, (812) 424-9274, with burial at Rose Hill Cemetery in Newburgh. Donations in her honor may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, AseraCare hospice, or your favorite charity. Sympathy wishes may be shared at www.titzerfuneralhomes.com. Rest In Peace Mom!
