Marlene (Moncalian) Bishop

Marlene (Moncalian) Bishop, 78,of Newburgh, IN, passed away in her home on Thursday, October 6, 2016.

Marlene was born December 22, 1937 to Manuel and Margaret (Marvich) Moncalian in Lackawanna, NY. As first generation American born, Marlene was raised with hard working values and a will to achieve. After graduating from West Seneca High School, Marlene met JC Bishop while he was serving in the Army in Niagra Falls, NY.  In 1958, JC and Marlene were married in Waukegan, IL.  Together, they moved to Indiana where they lived and raised their family.  JC and Marlene remained together for the rest of their lives. 

Marlene Bishop enjoyed a successful business career.  Marlene began working at Anchor Industries as a sewing machine operator in 1971.  As testament to her talent and work ethic, Marlene rose to the position of Plant Manager by her retirement in 2003. Marlene was the first woman in the organization to reach such a position.

Family and friends were the most important thing in Marlene’s life.  She was always willing to give her time and energy for the betterment of her family and friends.  Marlene was most happy when helping others.  Marlene had a truly creative mind and always sought new ways to solve problems, which led to many inventions. Marlene enjoyed sewing.  Her artistry in quilting is well known among her friends and family.  She loved to travel the country via motorcycle with JC.  She developed many lasting friendships through her passion for riding. 

Marlene is survived by daughter, Anita Bishop of Newburgh, IN; son Matthew (Nico) of Canton, GA;  grandchildren, Maloree Cobb, Jaycob Cobb, Logan Bishop, Ryley Bishop and Kameryn Bishop; sister, Melanie (Moncalian) Pajack of Lackawanna, NY; sister-in-law, Janet Moncalian of Orchard Park, NY;  and brother-in-law,  Raymond Damba of Rapid City, SD.  Marlene is also survived by several nieces and nephews with whom she held close relationships that she valued deeply.

Marlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband J.C. Bishop; son, James (JC) Bishop; sister, Matilda (Moncalian) Damba; and brother, Emanuel Moncalian.

A Funeral Service will be held 12 p.m., Saturday, October 15, 2016, with visitation beginning at 9 a.m., at Titzer Family Funeral Homes, Simpson Chapel, 510 W. Jennings St., Newburgh, Ind., (812) 853-8314.  Sympathy wishes may be shared at www.titzerfuneralhomes.com.
