Marvin Frederick Schultz

August 9, 1940 — November 7, 2023

Elberfeld

Marvin F. Schultz, 83, of Elberfeld, passed into his eternal rest on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at his home.

Marvin was born and raised in Elberfeld and graduated from Elberfeld High School.  He was a farmer, athlete, and outdoorsman while also working at Whirlpool from which he retired after 37 years of service as a Lifetime Associate.

Marvin enjoyed playing many sports including baseball, softball (slow and fast pitch), and basketball (in school and recreational leagues).  He also enjoyed croquet, horseshoes, and washers.  In addition to playing sports, Marvin coached various softball and baseball teams.  In later years, he enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play those same sports with the same level of desire that he displayed. He also was an avid fan of St. Louis Cardinals baseball, and both IU and UE basketball.

Marvin also enjoyed the outdoors.  He spent a lot of time at his camp on the Wabash River as a commercial fisherman.  He had many favorite dogs that he used for raccoon hunting and rabbit hunting.  Some of his most favorite times were walking in the dew soaked woods in the early morning in search of squirrels. Marvin especially enjoyed frying catfish for the many gatherings with family and friends. On many occasions he would stand outside and watch the clouds and weather.  He would then provide his forecast based on what he observed while passing this knowledge onto his children, grandchildren, and friends.

He was an active member of Zion U.C.C. in Elberfeld where he held various offices and sang in the choir for many years with his wife and his mother.  Marvin was a member of Local 808 and an Honorary Member of the Elberfeld American Legion due to his years of service as a bugler.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Eloise Schultz, granddaughter Regan Schultz, his brother-in-law (and best buddy) Jerry Harris, as well as his other brother-in-law Robert Susott.

Surviving is his wife of 59 years Lucy Schultz of Elberfeld, son Timothy and wife Gina and grandchildren Audrey and Erik of Elberfeld, daughter Cindy Webb and husband Greg of Elberfeld and grandchildren Ty and Alicia, son Ryan and grandchildren Brandon, Ryder and Savannah of Evansville, sister-in-law Mary Ann Harris of Fulton, Missouri, as well as several cousins, nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces.

A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 11, 2023 at Zion United Church of Christ, 2nd & Elm St., Elberfeld, Ind., with visitation beginning at 9 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow at Zion Cemetery.
