Mary Schmidt, 88, of Newburgh, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2016, surrounded by those she loved at Golden Living Center Woodlands. Mary was born June 14, 1927, in Newburgh, the daughter of George and Clara Schmidt. She was a member of St John the Baptist Catholic Church and an avid crocheter, and loved to enjoy mowing grass in the summertime and helping her brother in his garden. She will hold a special place in the hearts of the many nieces and nephews she helped to raise and babysit. She is survived by her brother Robert Schmidt, sister-in-law Doris Schmidt, and several generations of nieces and nephews, to include Beth Fitzsimmons (Bret), Diane Schmidt, Barbara Barnett (Larry), Joey (Sarah) and Tony Schmidt (Destiny), Lauren and Haley Fitzsimmons. She was preceded in death by her parents and ten brothers and sisters. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. with visitation beginning at 9 a.m., Monday, March 28, 2016, at St John the Baptist Catholic Church, 625 Frame Rd., Newburgh, with Reverend Thomas Kessler officiating. Burial will be in St John the Baptist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity of your choice.
