Noreen Jackson, 91, of Newburgh, IN, passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2026. She was born on March 24, 1935, in Peabody, MA, to the late John and Alice Vagge. Noreen was the youngest of six children.
Noreen was a devoted mother to her four children, a very involved stay at home mom who was loved by many. She then worked for many years at Walgreens. Noreen was an active member of her community and church groups, and loved nothing more than helping those in need.
Noreen was preceded in death by her husband, Ernie Jackson, her daughter, Erin O’Connell, and her grandson, Jeremy Uber.
She is survived by her sons, Michael O’Connell of Lyons, CO; Kevin “Kip” O’Connell and his wife, Teresa, of Newburgh, IN; and Sean O’Connell of Ware, MA; her grandchildren, Seamus O’Connell and his wife, Christie; Kaleen Layer and her husband, Andrew; Michael O’Connell and his wife, Alicia; Kevin O’Connell and Melissa Baez-Guiliani; and Briana O’Connell; and seven great-grandchildren.
Noreen was a parishioner at St John The Baptist Catholic Parish on Frame Road in Newburgh, Indiana. A funeral Mass will be held there on Saturday, August 29th at 10:00 AM.
The family would like to thank all of the medical personnel who helped Noreen during her final days. Noreen’s friend and primary care physician, Dr. Della Evans, always went above and beyond in her care. The doctors, nurses, techs, and sitters at Deaconess Gateway all strived to keep her comfortable and safe. Newburgh Health Care was there for her as she transitioned away from the need for hospital care. Finally, every single person at Heart to Heart Hospice was amazing. Kaitlyn and Laura led the team at home and treated Noreen like their own grandmother. That love and compassion continued with the inpatient nurses. They even huddled around her bed and sang to her as she passed. Thank you all.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Noreen’s memory may be made to the Heart To Heart Hospice Foundation.
