Preston A. Johnson, Jr.

Preston Allen Johnson Jr., 70, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on September 8th, 2026 peacefully in his home. He was a man who treasured every moment he had with his family and fur babies: the children who pushed him to be a better man, his grandchildren who reminded him of how much he was loved, and his wife who stayed by his side for 45 years.

Born in Henderson, Kentucky on July 18th, 1956, Preston was retired from the IBEW. But those who knew him best remember him most for how much he adored his family and any opportunity to spend time with them. He was known for giving hugs that almost had a healing effect. Anyone that was privileged enough to receive one of those hugs was able to feel it. He loved his pets as if they were his children, shown by the table scraps he treated them with and the meals he cooked for them.

He is survived by his wife, Jenny Johnson, his two siblings, his children David Farmer (Anita Farmer), Jessica Winn (Don Winn), Ginger Grantham, Hilliary Clanan, and Amanda Sikes (Zack Sikes), his sixteen grandchildren, and his seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Preston Sr. and his mother Suzanne.

A celebration of life will be held at the West Side Hacienda on September 11th, 2026 at 2pm. Friends and family are invited and encouraged to reminisce in the memories of our departed Pawpaw.

Pawpaw was more than just a man, more than just a sibling, and more than just a father. He was a grandpa, and that meant the world to him. He chased every moment to spend time with his grandchildren, and froze every moment in time by taking selfies and photos whenever he could. This passing was something that none of his family ever expected, and will heavily linger for quite some time. He was a good man, although stubborn, that meant every bit of it with love and nothing less. He always tried to reach out to remind those who he held closest to his heart that he loved and missed them. You could always find him in his comfy chair in his room watching TV with his dogs cuddled up in his lap or by the smoker, making some of his famous smoked meat that everyone looked forward to. The memories of Thanksgiving and Christmas with him sitting at the head of the table, smiling and sharing meals with his family and pets will never be forgotten, and will be a favorite of many as these times were some of his favorites.

Up in heaven, Pawpaw will be cooking a big meal for every fur baby that gets sent his way and he will make sure to greet every family member with a big warm hug. Pawpaw will be greatly missed, never forgotten, forever loved, and he will forever be in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions be directed to a fund to assist with final expenses, $pjmemorialfund or in person.
