Listen to Obituary

Robert M. Dodge, 84, of Newburgh, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, Indiana, surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 19, 1941, in Durand, Michigan, to the late Milton and Ruth (Gilpin) Dodge. He and his parents moved to Newburgh, Indiana, when he was four years old.

Robert was a member of the last graduating class of Newburgh High School in 1959. He earned his undergraduate degree from Evansville College (now University of Evansville) where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He then went on to obtain his master’s degree in education from the University of Indianapolis. Robert began his career as a teacher advancing to Director of Vocational Education at Attebury Job Corp Center in Edinburgh, Indiana. He and his wife, Diane, and their two children resided in Columbus, Indiana, for over 20 years before returning to his hometown of Newburgh in 1988.

Robert enjoyed watching U of E baseball and basketball, monthly breakfasts with his Newburgh friends (some of whom were his friends since grade school), attending his grandchildren’s soccer games, and vacationing with his family at Kentucky Lake. After retirement, he and Diane enjoyed traveling; he especially enjoyed their cross-country trip to Montana and their cruises around Hawaii and the Caribbean.

Later in life he enjoyed spending his time tinkering around at his property. His family and friends could always rely on him to fix anything, knowing he always had the right tools for the job.

Robert is survived by his wife of 58 years, Diane (Vowels) Dodge, daughter, Jill Dodge, daughter, Wendy (Larry) Nohalty, grandchildren, Abby, Nora, Liam, and Annie Nohalty, and great-granddaughter, Ellie Bueltel. He is also survived by his in-laws, Donna Leader, Kathy Vowels, Denise Vowels, Dennis Vowels, Donald (Kalah) Vowels, as well as several nieces and nephews.

His immediate family is especially grateful to his niece, Caron Leader, for her support during his illness.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two infant sisters, Louise and Marie, mother-in-law Beverly (Metcalfe) Vowels, brother-in-law Daniel Vowels, and sister-in-law Deborah Bowman.
