Valeria Mary "Val" Mattingly, 90, of Evansville, Ind., passed away, April 7, 2016, at University Nursing and Rehab. She was born March 13, 1926, in Mariah Hill, Ind., to Otto O. and Frances M. (Bredholdt) Dilger.
She graduated from Huntingburg High School. She became a nurse and retired from St. Mary's Hospital in 1991. Val was a member of the Legion of Mary, member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, St. Mary's Alumni, St. Vincent De Paul Society, and the Eastside Lion's Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John A. Mattingly; siblings, Louise Wingert, Russell and Harvey Meyer.
Val is survived by children, Mary Ransdell, Susan Leathers, Kevin Mattingly; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; siblings, Dolores Snyder, Cornel Meyer; and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m., with visitation beginning at 9 a.m., Friday, May 20, 2016, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1301 S. Green River Rd., Evansville. Rev. Fr. Bernard T. Etienne will officiate. Inurnment will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
