Virgil Clifford Bender

Virgil Clifford Bender, 86, of Newburgh, passed away Friday, October 4, 2019 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital.  He was born on October 7, 1932 in Fulton, SD to Leo and Blanche (Mahonney) Bender.  He came from South Dakota in 1970 to form the Bromwell Business College later Lockyear Business College. 

Virgil served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion Post# 44 Kappperman Post in Newburgh.  He retired after 20 years from BFI as a Scale Master.

 

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents; two children, Patrick and Jodele.  He is survived by his wife, Adele (Kummer) Bender; two daughters, Jane Mosby and Mary Saltzman (Rich); granddaughter, Johnna Mosby; great-grandson, Karter Barnett; siblings, Brad Bender (Jodi) and Gary Bender (Carla), and Darla Peppmueller; and several other family members and friends.

 

Visitation with the family will held on Thursday, October 10, 2019 beginning  at 11 a.m. with a prayer service at 1 p.m. conducted by Rev. Fr. Joseph Ziliak at Titzer Family Funeral Homes ~ Simpson Chapel, 510 W. Jennings St. Newburgh, IN 47630, (812) 853-8314.  Burial will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery will full military rites conducted by American Legion Kapperman Post# 44.
