Wilma “Jean” Madden, 73, of Newburgh, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2026. She was born in Bremen, Indiana, on December 15, 1952, to William James and Anna Belle (Moore) Griffing.
Jean was a graduate of Butler University, earning her bachelor’s degree and later a master’s degree in education. She taught for 32 years at Newburgh Elementary and, for a short time, at Sharon Elementary in Newburgh. Jean had a passion for teaching, always going above and beyond to make learning fun and to motivate her students. She will be remembered by her family and friends for many things but particularly for her kindness and sense of humor.
Jean is survived by her brother, William “Bill” Griffing and her sister Beverly Ann Gardner. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother—Jack Griffing, and her loving husband—Joseph Madden.
Jean’s wishes were to be cremated; there will be no services. Remember her and rejoice when you hear the song, “I’ll Fly Away.” It was her favorite hymn.
Fond memories of Jean and condolences to her family may be shared on the Titzer Family Funeral Homes website, www.titzerfuneralhomes.com.
